Senior Power Engineer (Critical Infrastructure)

About PLC Group

PLC Group is a premier provider of critical facilities and infrastructure management solutions. We empower Tier 1 telecom operators and data centers with Actionable Intelligence (AxIn). Our mission is to redefine how global networks manage power and cooling. As a Senior Power Engineer, you will be the technical cornerstone of our engineering division, designing the resilient power architectures that fuel the digital economy.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Power Engineer with a deep background in mission-critical power systems. You will lead the engineering lifecycle for large-scale deployments, providing expert-level design for AC/DC power plants, UPS systems, and renewable energy integrations. You won’t just follow standards; you will set them—driving innovation in energy efficiency and predictive power management for our global clientele.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Engineering Design: Lead the architectural design of complex -48V DC power plants, high-capacity UPS systems, and backup power solutions (Generators/Lithium-Ion ESS) for Tier 1 facilities.
  • Technical Leadership: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the sales and project teams, conducting high-level technical reviews and validating engineered solutions before deployment.
  • Energy Optimization & Sustainability: Develop and implement advanced strategies for PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) reduction and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) optimization using the AxIn platform.
  • Regulatory & Safety Authority: Ensure all regional and national projects comply with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA standards, and IEEE recommendations. Sign off on complex engineering drawings and single-line diagrams.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for Tier 3 power failures and provide remote or on-site expert intervention for critical system recoveries.
  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor intermediate and junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning within the PLC Group.
  • Vendor & Innovation Management: Evaluate new power hardware (rectifiers, controllers, sensors) to ensure PLC Group remains at the cutting edge of Industrial IoT (IIoT) technology.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Licensing: P.Eng (Professional Engineer) designation in Ontario is required; additional provincial licenses are a significant asset.
  • Experience: 8+ years in power systems engineering, with at least 5 years specifically in Mission Critical Environments (Telecom COs, Data Centers, or Utility Substations).
  • Technical Mastery: * Deep expertise in AC/DC power conversion, battery technology (VRLA/Li-ion), and thermal management.
    • Proficiency in power system modeling and simulation software (e.g., ETAP, SKM, or AutoCAD Electrical).
    • Strong understanding of SCADA, Modbus, SNMP, and how physical power layers integrate with software monitoring.
  • Soft Skills: Proven ability to present complex engineering concepts to executive stakeholders and non-technical clients.

Why Lead at PLC Group?

  • Influence: You will have a direct hand in shaping the infrastructure strategy for Canada’s largest telecommunications providers.
  • Innovation: Work at the intersection of heavy electrical engineering and AI-driven data analytics.
  • Comprehensive Package: Highly competitive executive-level salary, performance bonuses, and a robust benefits package.
